pchan's cupcake recipe

It's easy to make cupcakes!  Even though I usually make mine from scratch or get them off the cupcake trees, you can make cupcakes really easily at home!

what you'll need:

cake mix

eggs or egg substitute

oil

milk or soy milk

a muffin pan

baking cups or non-stick spray

sprinkles or nonpareils

frosting

1. First get a big bowl to mix everything in.  Follow the instructions on the cake mix to make the cake like normal.  Most cake mixes need you to use egg or egg substitute, milk or soy milk, and oil.

2. Once the batter is smooth and there aren't any lumps left, you are done mixing it!  Now you should either spray your muffin pan or put baking cups in it.  I like baking cups because they are colorful and easy, and sometimes cooking spray can make cleanup of your muffin pan harder.

3. Spoon your batter into the muffin cups or greased muffin pan.  Don't fill them up to the top though, or else you'll have huge tops that stick to the muffin pan!  Fill them just slightly more than half.

4. Bake according to the directions on the cake mix, or ask someone who knows how to cook well.  You should be safe cooking at around 375 degrees fahrenheit for around fifteen or twenty minutes, but ovens and temperatures and altitudes and humidity can affect this.  Be sure to check your cupcakes every five minutes or so if you can, so that you don't burn them.  Also, be sure to write down how long and how hot you cooked them so that you'll remember next time!

5. Once they're done, turn the oven off and get some oven mitts.  Carefully remove the muffin pan from the oven, and turn the cupcakes out onto a plate to cool.  You can make sure they're done by inserting a toothpick into one.  If the toothpick comes out clean, the cupcakes are fully cooked and done.  A little bit of cake on the toothpick is okay, but runny batter isn't!

6. After they have had a chance to cool, you should use the frosting on them.  I like creamy frosting that sets up a little, but you should choose your favorite!  I think everyone should put sprinkles on cupcakes, because that makes them perfect.  You can even put a cherry on the top if you want to!
